2 Chronicles – Chapter 5

2 chronicles chapter 5

Verses 1-3 – The temple would serve as the only place of worship for all 12 tribes. The temple took seven years to build. The festival in the seventh month was the Feast of Tabernacles, celebrating God’s protection of Israel as they wandered in the desert before entering the promise land. The purpose of Israel’s commitment to God was their trust in his guidance and protection.

Verses 7-9 – More than a century earlier the ark had been in the most holy place of the tabernacle. After that it had changed locations several times, but it had never been returned to its prescribed location in the tabernacle. Now finally the ark of the covenant resumed its proper place in the holy of holies.

Verse 10 – By this time only two tablets with the commandments were in the ark but at one time it contained a pot of manna and Aaron’s rod that had miraculously sprouted (Hebrews 9:4).

Verse 13 – The first service at the temple began with honoring God and acknowledging His presence and goodness in the same way, our worship should begin by acknowledging God’s love. The Bible says to enter His gates with thanksgiving. Praise for God’s love is a big part of being grateful. Then we can present our needs to Him. God’s love and mercy should inspire us to worship Him daily. Psalm 107 is an example of how David recalled God’s enduring love.
