Psalm 29

Psalm 29

Author: David

Verse 1 – Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, give unto the Lord glory and strength.

Verse 2 – Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

In this text, “Mighty Ones,” refers to angelic beings (Psalm 89:6). The angels are witness of God’s creation (Job 38:7) and are allowed access to God in heaven (Job 1:6; 2:11). They surround His throne to praise and worship Him (Isaiah 6; Ezekiel 1).

Verse 3 – The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is over many waters.

Verse 4 – The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

David uses the expression, “The Lords voice is over the waters,” to show dominion, powerful, and majestic.

Verse 5 – The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon.

Verse 6 – He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.

Verse 7 – The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.

Lebanon was known for its cedars. Magnificent trees that could reach heights of 120 feet, in Israel. Sirion refers to Mount Hermon, the tallest mountain in that area. For a voice, not just any voice, but the very voice of God, that could break these trees in half, has to be enormous. I hope you are beginning to see how powerful “God All Mighty” is. In verse 7, lightening, which accompanies thunder, is called “flames of fire.”

Verse 8 – The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

Verse 9 – The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth, and strips the forest bare; and in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”

Verse 10 – The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood, and the Lord sits as King forever.

Verse 11 – The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.

Throughout history, God has revealed His power through miracles over nature, such as the great Flood. Paul urged us to realize just how mighty God’s power is (Ephesians 1:18-23). If you are a believer, Christ is in you and you in Him. That same resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you! Romans 8:11 – But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
