Too many times when we read God’s word, we stop reading too soon. For instance in 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10 it says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexual, nor sodomites, (verse 10) nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revelers, nor extortioners will inherit the Kingdom of God.
Too many stop right there. However, we know from God’s Word that He forgives all sin, so why not finish reading and find out the “Good News?”
Verse 11 – And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Without the grace of God, anyone of those sins listed is enough to send us to , you know where, but the truth is, “Unbelief” is the true culprit. Even though we are born again we may still covet another’s property or slander another or drink too much and so on, but being born-again give us a right to go to the Father when we give in to sin.
The Bible says, “and such “were” some of you. We all came to God in one condition or another and none of it was good. And yes, we still sin and mess up, but we are not that today. After being washed, sanctified, and justified, God doesn’t label us like others can label us. He calls us His child of the Most High – Holy because of what Jesus did, not us. We never stay in the same condition of when we first came to Him.
Truth: 1 Corinthians 6:17 – But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him (and when we know who we are, our behavior will change).
Just remember: Any temptation to return to the old life, is always wrapped up in Satan’s lies. Christ will make a way of escape for each one of us.
The freedom that we have in knowing who we really are, will and does set us completely free indeed to live for Him!
