“God is the Judge”
Verse 1 – We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.
Verse 2 – “When I choose the proper time, I will judge uprightly,
Verse 3 – The earth and all its inhabitants are dissolved; I set up its pillars firmly.” Selah
As limited human beings, we can’t quit understand God’s perspective about time. We want everything now, unaware that God’s timing is better. God reveals what we need to know, in His timing. He sees the end from the beginning.
Verse 4 – “I said to the boastful, ‘Do not deal boastfully, and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up the horn.
(raise the head proudly like a horned animal.)
Verse 5 – Do not lift up your horn on high; do not speak with a stiff neck.’ ”
The only boasting we should do as God’s children, is in God’s goodness.
Verse 6 – For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south.
Verse 7 – But God is judge: He puts down one, and exalts another.
Verse 8 – For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is fully mixed, and He pours it out; surely it dregs shall all the wicked of the earth drain and drink it down.
Drinking the cup of God’s judgment is a picture used often in scripture. It gives the impression of drinking ones own medicine. Drinking it down to the dregs means God’s enemies will be punished completely.
So what saves a person from this wrath and punishment , nothing but the “Blood of Jesus!” We must be born-again.
Verse 9 – But I will declare forever, I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
Verse 10 – “All the horns of the wicked I will also cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.”
