How was the gospel presented to you when you first heard it? Was it by a preacher, or a Christian? Were you told, “Yes, Jesus paid the price for all your sin, but now you have to be good, walk in holiness, and do good works, in order to stay saved? I think far too many have left the church because no one ever explained to them just how much God loves them. He doesn’t stop loving you because you mess up. If it’s been years since you’ve even talked to Him, He’s waiting.
I spent years never being able to measure up to what the pastor was teaching. I’d look around at the congregation and wonder, “How do all these people do it?” Then as time went by and I would go to more and more church gatherings, I would see things that just didn’t line up. It took some time for me to search the scripture to find the true message of grace. Please don’t misunderstand, our behavior does matter. Someone who is truly born-again, will have a transformation from the inside out. They will not want to do what they used to do because they know they are not that person anymore. However, because we still do and say things that we shouldn’t, doesn’t mean God does not accept us anymore.
We are accepted by God because of what Jesus did plus Zero!
Romans 11:6 – If by grace, then it is no longer works; otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace; otherwise works is no more works.
In other words: You are either saved by grace or by works, but not a combination of the two. Christ didn’t just do a minimum payment and then we do the rest to keep our salvation. Christ paid the ultimate price with His shed blood when He gave His life at Calvary. It’s a matter of believing and receiving this awesome gift from God All Mighty.
When the accuser of the brethren, Satan, starts his attacks in our minds, he doesn’t tell us that God can’t deliver you or He can’t perform a miracle in your situation. What he does is, tell you that you’re not good enough for God to even listen to your prayer, let alone answer you.
Please understand: You have to know the Word of God in order to cast down every thing that Satan says. What he’s saying acts as though it’s more powerful than what God says. It’s not! We can’t tie our performance to whether or not we are accepted!
Romans 1:16, 17 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (17) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Too many in our society today refer to the Gospel as anything having to do with the church or Christianity. Too many are leaving the fellowship of the body because all they hear is, “one day they are going to hell and the next, if their performance measures up, then their on their way to heaven. That’s just wrong. You are not saved one day and lost the next.
Remember what the Word Gospel means: Nearly too good to be true news. Outside of the good news of the Gospel, life is full of hardships, anxiety, and evil, that we cant’ get ourselves out of .
But yes, our lives will have hardships, deaths, and evil, but God has provided an escape for all who believe. His wrath for all of our sin, injustices we did to others, was placed on Jesus. God so loved the world – everybody in it, that He came in the flesh, gave His life as the perfect sacrifice, so that we could have an abundant life, if only we believe. That’s the “good news” of the True Gospel of Grace! Christ lay down His life for you and me and we became the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21 – For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us (you and me) that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus).( And just so you know, yes, we will do good works for those who are in Him.)
So don’t beat your self up when you make a decision that fails. Don’t lose heart when you mess up and regret what just happened. Confess your righteousness in God through Jesus Christ and go on. God still loves you and your still His child! Amen
