Verse 1 – The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad!
Verse 2 – Clouds and darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
The darkness and clouds used for description in this verse, reminds me of what surrounded Mount Sinai. No one could stand in the presence of this Holy God without the covering of the clouds. The brightness of His Holiness would have consumed them.
Verse 3 – A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies round about.
Verse 4 – His lightnings light the world; the earth sees and trembles.
Verse 5 – The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
And I might add: That demons tremble and have to flee at the mention of His name – Jesus!
Verse 6 – The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory.
Verse 7 – Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods.
When Moses was talking to the Israelites in the Book of Deuteronomy, he repeated to them what God had said to him: God said not to make any form of any figure, male or female, beast, winged bird, anything that creeps on the ground; the likeness of any fish, the sun, and the moon. He also said, “You shall not bow down to them” (Acts 17:11 and 1 Corinthians 10). Scripture can’t get any plainer about making a graven image of something and putting it before Him or mixing it into a worship ceremony to God.
Verse 8 – Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice because of Your judgments, O Lord.
Verse 9 – For You, Lord, are most high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.
Verse 10 – You who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
A true desire from a believer is to love what God loves and hate evil. We do not simply accept what the culture or society accepts. Evil is still evil, according to God’s standards.
Verse 11 – Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Verse 12 – Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
How will you ever know what God desires for you if you never read His Word? How will you ever have understanding if you never enter His house? How will you ever see answer to prayer if you never pray? The more I study and the more I learn, the more I love the Creator of all! His Word is always true; it accomplishes what it is sent forth to do and it will manifest in our lives, if we believe. Lets never neglect the relationship with Christ and substitute it with “Anything!” The any things in our lives will always fall short!
