Psalm 98

Psalm 98

Author: Anonymous

Verse 1 – Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.

Verse 2 – The Lord has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has openly shown in the sight of the nations.

Verse 3 – He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Even those who say there is no God, have seen God’s mercy, faithfulness, and salvation.

In the Old Testament salvation has the basic meaning of ‘bring into a spacious environment’ (wide place; Psalm 18:36). It can also refer to deliverance from disease, trouble, or enemies.

In the New Testament, it’s all that plus more. Salvation is God’s free gift to those who trust in the righteousness of Christ who has redeemed them by death and justified them by His resurrection. Then the Holy Spirit gives us the power to live a new life, ultimately to be conformed to Christ Himself (Romans 8:29). There has to be a change of heart. Salvation is both a present reality and a future promise.

Verse 4 – Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.

Verse 5 – Sing to the Lord with the harp , with the harp and the sound of a psalm,

Verse 6 – With trumpets and the sound of a horn; shout joyfully before the Lord, the king.

When we gather with others at our place of worship, it should be joyous, loud with musical instruments, singing God’s praises. Most of the time in the psalms, it says, “Shout to the Lord!” Not that He’s def, but don’t we yell and sequel when we are excited? Why not show some enthusiasm for the Lord?

Verse 7 – Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,

verse 8 – Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills be joyful together before the Lord,

The psalmist mentions rivers, hills, and the sea, being joyful because of our God , so shouldn’t we who actually have a mouth glorify God and have hands to clap with, use them to bring glory to our awesome God?

Verse 9 – For He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness He shall judge the world, and the people with equity (uprightness).
