Verse 1 – Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding;
Verse 2 – For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.
Verse 3 – When I was my father’s son, tender and the only one in the sight of my mother,
Verse 4 – He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; keep my commands, and live.
Verse 5 – Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Not everyone’s parents teach their children wisdom from God. If you didn’t have parents that taught you, you have a heavenly Father who is willing to teach you through His Word. Ultimately, all godly wisdom comes from God Himself. When we change our thinking, our behavior changes too. Obedience to God’s written Word is a good place to start.
Verse 6 – Do not forsake her (wisdom), and she will preserve you; love her and she will keep you;
Verse 7 – Wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom. and in all your getting get understanding.
Wisdom must be sought after throughout our lives. In every area and decision, we must have determination to make the right choice.
David taught Solomon as a young boy, the most important choice he could make was to go after God’s wisdom.
James 1:5 – If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given him.
Verse 8 – Exalt her (wisdom), and she will promote you; she will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
Verse 9 – She will place on your head an ornament of grace; a crown of glory she will deliver to you.”
This ornament and crown is a covering of favor from God that will be visible to others, but watch out some people get very jealous when they see God showing favor to an individual.
Verse 10 – Hear, my son, and receive my saying, and the years of your life will be many.
Verse 11 – I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in the right paths.
Verse 12 – When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble.
Verse 13 – Take firm hold of instructions, do not let go; keep her for she is your life.
When people are young, they start developing behavioral habits. If they develop a habit of manipulating people, they will continue down through their adult lives, if they don’t come to the realization that it’s wrong. Some won’t stop until the consequences are server enough to make them stop. Our friends and whom we associate with, has a huge impact on the decisions we make, so watch whom you hang out with.
Verse 14 – Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil.
Verse 15 – Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn away from it and pass on.
Verse 16 – For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.
Verse 17 – For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Verse 18 – But the path of the just is like the shinning sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.
Verse 19 – The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
Verse 20 – My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
Verse 21 – Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart;
Verse 22 – For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
You don’t have to be old in age and white-haired to have wisdom and understanding. Sometimes wisdom that is shared with others will come through life’s experiences. When we find a mentor who has been through a lot in life and whose guide is the Holy Spirit , take the time to listen to them.
Verse 23 – Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.
Our heart is who we are, the “true you,” that directs all our thoughts and emotions. What goes in, will come out! The inclination of our heart directs our mortal life and determines whether or not whether we enter eternal life. So, if you’ve received in your heart that Jesus is the Son of God, your heart will be filled with His Spirit to guide you into all truths pertaining to life everlasting.
Verse 24 – Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you.
Verse 25 – Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you.
It takes a strong determination to follow Christ. It takes a huge amount of “self-control” to not be distracted. But the reward of spending all eternity with our Savior, is worth whatever persecution we go through on this earth.
Verse 26 – Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.
Verse 27 – Do not turn to the right or to the left; remove your foot from evil.
I see too many in today’s society, willing to compromise their faith and beliefs. They are afraid of the “Labeling and name calling.” They think because society now accepts certain “sins,” that if they disagree, they will be labeled a “fanatic!” I say, “So what?” I have a stubborn faith that bases everything on the Word of God, to the point some don’t like me. I’m not here to please their philosophy.
My goal is to live a life centered with Jesus Christ and tell others “God loves You!” Our life should show others who have doubts, that no matter what, our faith is established in the “One True God,” His name is Jesus!
