Isaiah – Chapter 55

Verse 1 – Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money without price.

Our God not only will give spiritual water, but also take care of our physical needs.

Verse 2 – Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.

God’s people had not been accepting the free offer of salvation represented by water for the thirsty. They had been going to other resources for their needs.

Verse 3 – Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; I will make an everlasting covenant with you – the sure mercies of David.

The promises to David are found in 2 Samuel 7. God said David’s dynasty would be established forever. The New Testament understood the unconditional promise to be fulfilled in Jesus Christ, a descendant of David.

Verse 4 – Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, a leader and commander for the people.

Verse 5 – Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you.”

Verse 6 – Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.

God doesn’t move away from us, we drift from Him. Our God is always near to hear our cry. With a sincere heart and a steadfast mind, we seek Him with everything that is in us and He says He’ll give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4).

Verse 7 – Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord. And He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

This verse is plain and simple if you want to understand how to come to Jesus: forsake your sin, wicked ways, humble yourself, and He will pardon you – all sin washed away by His precious blood. Then you begin a new life with Christ, totally transformed.

Verse 8 – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

Verse 9 – “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

So how do we get to know the mind of Christ? By His Word. We will still never know the in-depth wisdom of our God, but it will bring us closer every time we take His Word into our spirit. God wants us to know His mercy and kindness and He says this goodness is what will cause all men to repent! Read Romans 2:4

Verse 10 – “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water on earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

Verse 11 – so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Do you see why it is so important to know God’s Word? When you speak by faith what God says about you or your situation, the Word has the ability to accomplish what God intended it to accomplish! The words, “I can and I will,” will produce a lot more than “I can’t!” Speak His Word only and watch things in your life turn around for your good!

Verse 12 – “For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Verse 13 – Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

Because of God’s redemption, His people and the rest of creation, will break out in singing and joy unspeakable!
