Knowing God In Your Spirit

1 Corinthians 2:9 – But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. (Verse 10) But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

The way God reveals Himself is through His Spirit. However, we know people only have a limited understanding. The person you think you know the best, will surprise you at times by what they say or what they do. And not only that, but at times you will be surprised at yourself. How many times in a person’s life will they say, “That’s not me!

The knowledge of ourselves or another person, runs at different levels. Therefore, if the closest person in your life you really don’t know and if you can’t even figure out “you,” then it ought not surprise us about our inability to be able to figure out God. So, if we have a hard time trying to figure out other people, it shouldn’t shock us that on a human level, we can’t figure out God.

To come to know God means, He must come to reveal and expose Himself to us, because the Bible declares that God’s wisdom and knowledge are unsearchable. Revelation is when God pulls back the curtain and lets us see Him.

This verse in Corinthians says He reveals Himself through His Spirit. In order for us to come to know God, we must do it on a spiritual level. Our spirit, is the “God contact part” of us. That is the part that God wants to “enter a face-to-face” with us. So, how do we know when God is revealing Himself on this deep level?

When God is reaching us on the spirit level, it will involve things that “eye has not seen nor ear heard,” and it will involve things we have not thought of – hasn’t entered into man’s heart.

We have limited the knowledge of God to either the body or the soul. Our five senses that we interact with in this world, we expect to interact with God the same way. Interacting with God goes much deeper than what we have “seen” or “heard” or entered into our heart, thoughts.

We can look at nature and conclude, “God is big!” We all can figure that much out without really coming to know Him. Same as looking at a beautiful painting and thinking the artist is brilliant, but we still don’t know who painted it on a personal level. With all of our senses, we can figure out God must be big, but still not “know” Him. Knowing Him goes much deeper. If we only know Him based on what we can see or feel, its distorted. It’s limited.

So God then, must reveal Himself to us through His Spirit? Why? Because the Spirit searches all things even the depths of God. God does have a “search engine” – the Spirit.

To come into and experience the knowledge of God is not ordinary. The job of the Spirit is to take us deeper – “God diving!” Just like when someone “deep-sea dives, it takes special equipment. The Spirit of God is His instrument to take us deeper with Him beneath the natural form of physical reference. He goes past the confusion and distortion of our soul.

1 Corinthians 2:11 – For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. No one knows “you” but “you,” but even you don’t know you that well, but God does. And only the Spirit know God.

Look at 1 John 2:20 – But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. The anointing is the spiritual ability to make spiritual contact, and to receive spiritual information. John tells us that every believer has this “anointing.” Every single Christian that is truly born again has this anointing.

We are the receiver of this anointing and must engage with the signal, the Spirit, in order to receive from God However, if we don’t engage, even though God is sending us information, we won’t have a clear picture of what the Spirit is saying and it will be distorted.

God has placed in every believer a receiver, the anointing to receive what the Spirit is sending, but it must receive on the spirit level. The reason why many are not getting to know God is that we are satisfied to relate to Him on either the physical level or soul level, and go no further.

1 Corinthians 2:12 – Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

“We have not received the spirit of this world” – God does not want us going to the world to help us to see Him clearly. The world will give us a “distorted” picture of who He is. We have been given the Spirit from God to know the things given freely to us by God.

Not a lot is free in this world, but this verse states, “The knowledge of God” is free. So, how do we know we are freely gaining this knowledge of God? You’re changing! By the transforming of your mind and life to be more like Him. You won’t do the same things you used to do before you were saved. Our speech, thoughts, and behavior starts to change when you have the Spirit of God.

We don’t go to the world to help us be the “Church,” and body of Christ, which never works. A Christian does not go to a “non-Christian” to get their point of view in order to help them become a better Christian!

1 Corinthians 2:14 – But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The natural man, the person with the old spirit or a carnal spirit, does not have the proper receiver, which is the Spirit from God, so they think the things of God are “foolishness!” There is no anointing! Their soul is as far as they can go with God in the natural, physical world.

So, if you are a natural Christian, you are a Christian that doesn’t know God if you go no further than the soul to reach Him. You are carnal. They base everything they know about God on a: “I think, or I feel…” We can identify a carnal Christian because they look and act like everybody in the world does. There is nothing supernatural about them. They are left to their own solutions of what they can devise, their own resolutions, their own positive thinking. Everything is based on their emotions; what they think and feel. They are operating on the world’s spirit.

But the Christian who has the anointing, Spirit from God, but not receiving from God, is because they have become “fleshly.” 1 Corinthians 3:3 – For you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

Back to 1 Corinthians 2:15 – But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. (He who is operating spiritually.)

So here’s the question we need to ask: How do we know if we are “Spiritual?” It has to do with how we evaluate things – appraisals. When we appraise things, we analyze it to determine its value. So, is the things we are looking at, the Spirit’s way of thinking? The spiritual person is not concerned about what anyone says, but what the Spirit says. They are not concerned what popular opinion is, and they are not concerned with how many people they can get to agree with them about a matter. They only want what the Spirit says. Unless you raise that question first and raise that question about all things, you are not spiritual yet.

Here is how a person know’s if they are carnal. It is when the first thought of a situation is “What do I think; what do my friends think; and how many can I get to agree with me?” If that is a person’s first question to themselves, then they won’t experience God on a spiritual level.

However, the spiritual person who appraises everything consistently, don’t just visit the anointing occasionally, they will appraise all things. Too many are “selective appraisers.” Some people only know “a little bit of spiritual things” and will only bring those things up with God, all the while putting the bigger things on the back burner.

It is normal for a spiritual person to appraise things the way the Spirit does and abnormal not to. In other words: The Spiritual person understands spiritual things, while not being understood by others. The people who are carnal, don’t have a clear understanding of why people who are spiritual do what they do – they can’t figure them out!

1 Corinthians 2:16 – For “Who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Who are we to tell God anything? All of God’s knowledge is immediate and comprehensive. God knows what He knows because He knows what He knows. Everything we know, we discovered or have learned. God does not “act” on discovery. He has pre-discovered it and it is immediate, absolute, and comprehensive on all matters!

But we have the mind of Christ! When Jesus walked the earth, He was in constant communication with the Father and the Father would transmit to Jesus His will. This means, Jesus didn’t have to do something over and over again through trial and error to get something right. He was in such perfect contact with the Father, He always got it right the first time. Jesus had the mind of the Father.

But the Bible says that, “We have the mind of Christ.” What Jesus had from His Father, we now have from Jesus. We have the capacity to think like Jesus. If all Christians will learn this, we will save time and not make the same mistakes over and over.

A spiritual person will run everything by the word of God that is written and then wait on the Spirit to confirm, first. This will place us in a position to live life the way it was designed to be lived.

It is our refusal to evaluate things spiritually that causes our dilemmas. This is what happens when people refuse to change, be transformed. They keep living on the physical level.

The Bible is our foundation. It is the Word of God and a spiritual book, not a book with just religious language. It is the mind of the Spirit. The Bible is the mind of God written for us.

Combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words makes us able to do that because we have the mind of Christ. When the mind, our thinking, connects with the Word and we think in terms of what the Word says, we have now turned on our receiver!

However, some will say, “But sometimes the Bible is too “general on the subject and I need to know a specific word from God.” Just get the word you know, connect on those words and then you will be open for the Spirit to tell you what you need specifically for that situation.

God can give us several solutions, but we have to be tuned in to the One who knows all things. And He knows when we take His Word, adjust our thinking to His Word, then God can let the Spirit take us deep-sea diving. He will reveal things to us that we couldn’t get from anywhere else!

God wants us to experience His revelations on a bases of knowing things from Him. Are you willing to get to know God on a Spiritual level?
