What is the one thing Satan wants most? What is he trying to accomplish? What is the warfare all about?
What was Satan’s biggest desire before “the fall?” This would have been while Satan, Lucifer, was still in heaven, before the world was created. There were five “I wills” that Satan said and all five have to do with “being lifted up.”
Isaiah 14:12 – “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! (Verse 13) For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; (Verse 14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ (Verse 15) Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.
So, we have five desires of Satan’s will. He wanted to sit on a throne higher than God’s throne; be exalted; be worshiped; and he wanted to be like the Most High. Satan is the original sinner, not Adam.
We are born with this fallen nature – “Look at me, I want to be seen, I want people to pay attention to me.” Everything surrounds what we want and the focus is usually about ourselves. Before we came to Christ, the most important person in our lives is, “Me.” After we are born again, our focus is, or should be, on Christ and to be more like Him.
Look what Verse 11 says before all this was said: “Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the sound of your stringed instruments; the maggot is spread under you, and worms cover you.”
Yes, this is a description of Satan, but it was actually a prophecy given to the king of Babylon. So the prophecy was speaking to the “spirit” behind the king. This is common in Bible language. For instance, one time, Jesus was speaking to Peter, but was speaking to the spirit, and said, “Get behind Me Satan.” (Look at 14:4 where it clarifies to whom the prophecy is given: “That you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say;”
Now look at the prophecy that is given in Ezekiel 28, to the king of Tyre: Ezekiel 28:11 – Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, (Verse 12) “Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD GOD: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. (Verse 13) You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you in the day you were created.
This proves again that the prophecy is being spoken to the spirit of the king of Tyre about Satan, because the king of Tyre was never in the garden of Eden.
(Verse 14 ) “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. (Verse 15) You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you. (Verse 16) “By the abundance of your trading you became filled with violence within, and you sinned; therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God;’ and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.
The “workmanship of your timbrels,” is a percussion instrument. “And your pipes,” wind instruments. Percussion, wind, and stringed instruments were all built into Lucifer. Lucifer was the worship leader of heaven.
There are three Ark Angels in heaven; Gabriel, Michael, and believe it or not, Lucifer was one. Anytime we have a service, we have worship, prayer and the word. Anytime we see Gabriel in Scripture, he is announcing the Word of the LORD. When we see Michael, he is bringing the answering to the prayer; Daniel was trying to get an answer for his prayer and Michael had to help Gabriel get that Word to Daniel by fighting opposing principalities. Lucifer ruled, past tense, over worship.
Lucifer became violent by his trading – the old King James uses the word “merchandising.” Trading in the Hebrew is the same as merchandising. Example: If I work for someone in a retail store, sell something for 300.00 and put 100.00 in my pocket, that is merchandising – stealing what was supposed to pass through my hands to the rightful owner to whom it is due.
Here is what Lucifer did: He was leading all of heaven in worship, and the worship was to pass through him to the rightful owner, which is God. And one day as he’s leading worship, he said, “I’ll take some of that worship for myself.” And God said, “You’re out!!”
When a worship leader or pastor gets full of themselves and think the people should acknowledge how great they are, they are acting no different from Lucifer when he was caught stealing worship and praise.
Jesus put it this way: Luke 10:18 – “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” It was sudden and it was quick! God is the only One worthy to be worshiped, and Satan stole that worship and directed it to himself. Satan’s greatest desire was to be worshiped.
That was then, but what is his greatest desire now? Matthew 4:8 – Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. (Verse 9) And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
Satan tried to get the Son of God to worship him, so even to this day, he wants to be worshiped. He wanted Jesus to fall down before him – expressed. Worship is always expressed. Love is always expressed.
Look, if you can get excited about a football game or any other thing, you better get excited when you worship. You are not worshiping if you don’t make some kind of expression like clapping or bowing your head, singing to Him from heart. Standing there with your hands in your pockets won’t get it. And by the way, do you tell people that you love them and then never show them that you do?
Does it not excite you that you are redeemed from an eternal hell? Then we should show it! Don’t be so concerned with how “self” looks.
Do you know who doesn’t want us to express our love for God in worship? Satan! When we do nothing to express our love for the All Powerful God of creation, then maybe we don’t love Him as much as we tell others we do.
Even at the end, this will still be Satan’s desire: Revelation 13:4 – So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “”Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (The dragon is the devil, Revelation 12:9)
There is coming a day in the end times when people will worship the beast! I don’t think we have that long to wait, by looking at what is going on today. Revelation 17:13 – “These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.” (Verse 14) “These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” Make sure before that day whose side you are on.
Don’t give Satan a foothold in any area of your life because all of our worship belongs to the Lamb! His name is Jesus!!
