God’s Word Is Light
Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
God’s word illuminates our direction in the Christian life. It guides us, gives us insight, and gives us comfort, and tells us the path we should take.
Light Dispels Darkness
Think about this: As Christians, we are supposed to walk in the Spirit, but we are walking in a dark world. How many Christians are stumbling through life because they are not using their lamp? Darkness leaves immediately when a light is turned on.
John 3:20 – “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
If a person is caught in darkness, not wanting to read God’s Word and change, they do it because they don’t want to be exposed. However, this verse is talking about reading God’s word and having the evil deeds demolished because they are exposed to light. If there is darkness in your life, expose it to the “Light.”
Luke 11:33 – “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light. (Verse 34) “The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
What we look at with the eye, is how darkness or light gets into the body. How many hours a day do we read or watch bad things that are happening in the world? Can you imagine if we spent the same amount of time reading light, God’s Word? If we will spend time reading God’s word, it will drive out the darkness. What used to attract a person will soon repulse them when light floods their body.
Light Will Recover Lost Things
If we lose something in the dark, we get a light to help find it. We can’t find anything in the dark!
Luke 15:8-10 – “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she finds it? (Verse 9) “And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ (Verse 10) “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Sometimes we need to pull back from the noise of the world so that we can hear God, especially when an important decision has to be made concerning our lives. Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The soul is our mind, will, and emotions. We make decisions on what we think and what we feel, our mind and emotions. The Bible divides between the “soul” and the “spirit.” It divides what we think and feel is right and what really is right.
Light Shows the Way
It’s a light to my feet and a lamp to my path, it shows the way. We all have decisions we absolutely have to make. The Bible talks about “general” and “specific” revelations. Example: There are general guidelines of marriage and how to treat your spouse. Then there is the individual guidance of “whom” to marry.
My question has always been: How do we get a specific word from God from His Word? We read God’s word and pray. Praise, Prayer, and Proclamation. First we enter God’s presence with praise and always be thankful of what He has already done for you. Psalm 100:4 – Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good.
When we pray, we can tell God anything about what’s on our mind. I have found it always helpful to repeat God’s words from Scripture concerning that particular subject that is on my mind. It also helps to write down your prayers and be specific. I did that when I was looking for a place to live and He gave me a place down to the last detail. He led me right where I needed to be. He’s good all the time. He will answer your prayer. Go to Scriptures that concern the matter in your life. If you need healing, find the Scriptures concerning healing.
Often, too many people think that someone else can pray for their answer. If you want an answer for yourself, then you look up the Scriptures and you do your own praying. However, there is nothing wrong with getting other believers to stand in agreement with you when you pray, just make sure they are true believers. And, don’t always be looking for someone else to “Give me a word from God.” You need to hear from God yourself.
When you have a personal relationship with the Lord, then you take the matter to Him and I can guarantee you that He will speak a specific word to you. It will mean so much more to you when He directly speaks to you personally.
When we spend time in God’s presence and begin to meditate on His Word, things will become clear about where we are to go and what we are to do. I learned something a long time ago: Make no decisions before their time and don’t make decisions on your emotions. We make decisions on God’s truth!
